Test Project
A practice of self-identification began when I transitioned from a brief career in art design to fine art. This issue persisted throughout my journey: how to recognize oneself, and how to make a definitive recognition. With this confusion in mind, I wanted to anchor this confusion in a solid substance, one that possesses strong stability and certainty. The riverbank stones are the result of human and natural selection remaining here. Just like the arrival of the self, they stay there voluntarily or unwillingly in different forms for a short period of time on the Newcastel Draw Dock of the London Island of Garden. I attempted to emphasize some of these stones by building platforms, following my instincts rather than using too much rationality. I acknowledged that these were my choices and that these stones had their own subjectivity. Unexpectedly, after the children's activities at the Sunday Church ended, I met cola and her friends, probably elementary school children. I invited them to join my practice, asking them to choose the stones they found particularly special, pick them up, and simultaneously place a platform on their original position to prevent them from moving. (As for how I invited them, I drew a portrait of cola on a wet wooden stake with stones, and then cola accepted me, so I invited her and her friends to join.) I discovered that some of them would grab a handful of stones and say this is my favorite special one. Some like shiny glass. When asked about the reason, their answers were very simple and quick, like a car, easy to hold with one hand, with graffiti on it. This is a piece of rust, like being drunk... This naturally led me to think that perhaps these stones don't really need my confirmation of their subjectivity. They already have subjectivity, which is fluid and triggered.
